Thonon-les-Bains | France

Thonon-les-Bains is located in eastern France along Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps in the Haute Savoie. Thonon-les-Bains is a lively town of 30 000 inhabitants.

The town is both the capital of the Chablais region and the sub-prefecture of Haute Savoie. It is renowned for its commercial activity, its relaxed atmosphere and its mineral water which supplies the thermal spa.

Thonon-les-Bains was occupied by the Romans and later by the Burgundians. During the Wars of Religion in the sixteenth century the area was fought over by the Bernese and the Duke of Savoy. The Dukes of Savory built a fortified château, but it was destroyed by the French in 1589.
